Unlike a one-shot prompt, ALINE runs your manuscript through three sequential passes, each building on the last, to deliver analysis that holds the full book in mind.
Global Scrape & Synthesis
ALINE processes every chapter to extract characters, timelines, world-building glossaries, asset inventories, and the author's stylistic fingerprint. This builds a permanent Master Narrative State, a memory that persists across the entire book.
Categorical Synthesis & Reconciliation
A dedicated pass resolves aliases ("the sister," "Sarah," "Richards"), deduplicates character sightings, merges plotlines, and flags continuity inconsistencies. The result is a verified, canonical view of your narrative before editing begins.
Dual-Context Editorial Pass
Copy and developmental edits are applied chunk-by-chunk, but each chunk is informed by the full narrative state up to that point, preventing hindsight bias and ensuring every suggestion is contextually grounded. A Critic agent validates each structural change before delivery.

Character Voice DNA & Divergence Audit
Before editing a single sentence, ALINE performs a Divergence Audit to map unique linguistic fingerprints—quantifying character-specific dialects, verbal tics, sentence length distributions, and formality levels on a 1–5 scale. Intentional stylistic deviations are committed as Voice Anchors, protecting them from being "corrected" during the editorial pass. A secondary Critic agent explicitly reverts any edit that erases a character's distinctive voice or register.
Full-Book Continuity & Logic Auditing (Narrative Physics)
Standard browser AI cannot remember what happened in Chapter 1 when editing Chapter 14. ALINE maintains a persistent Unified Timeline, maps point-of-view distribution, and tracks an Asset Custody Matrix for every character, object, and location. It detects narrative physics anomalies such as character teleportation, sudden unexplained state shifts, and contradictory glossary definitions, flagging each one with a margin comment pointing to both the conflict and its source.
Surgical Patching & Critic Loop
We do not use blunt text overwrites. ALINE uses paragraph-index-aligned Surgical Patching to apply edits at the character level, preserving original formatting (bold, italics, hyperlinks, and custom styles) by reconstructing XML nodes. A secondary Critic agent reviews every structural (Level 3) change against your Style Sheet to prevent voice homogenization, and a Backward Reconciliation pass prunes redundant margin comments.
High-Fidelity Tracked Changes in .docx
You shouldn't have to copy and paste your manuscript into a new tool to review edits. ALINE uses deterministic paragraph indexing to natively integrate every copy edit and developmental comment as standard Microsoft Word Tracked Changes and Margin Comments. Your original formatting, including italics, bolding, chapter styles, and custom fonts, is flawlessly preserved. Simply click Accept or Reject as normal.
Factual Claim Verification (Non-Fiction)
For non-fiction authors, ALINE employs an optional Google Search Grounding
pass to verify high-uncertainty factual claims against real-time web knowledge. Claims rated
Refuted or Needs Nuance are automatically flagged with a
[Fact] margin comment. It also detects conceptual drift, such as when a term is
defined one way in Chapter 2 and used contradictorily in Chapter 6.
